Newlywed Mariah Carey is "over the moon" with happiness about her recent marriage to Nick Cannon, according to her friend, Vogue editor Andre Leon Talley.

"She is very happy," he told PEOPLE at the Metropolitan Museum Costume Institute Gala in New York on Monday. "I've spoken with her and she is superb. She is over the moon."

In his latest communication from the singer, he said she sounds like a woman in love. "I received an email from her [Monday] and she is so happy. She really sounds like someone on her honeymoon."

Talley also had words of praise for the songbird's new husband. "I love Nick Cannon for Mariah," he said. "For Mariah, this is poetry."

As for her wedding fashion, Talley said the nuptials happened so quickly that "I didn't have the time to offer her any style tips!"

Seven years after making what is widely regarded as one of the worst movies ever, Mariah Carey is back with another road-trip flick.

But her new movie, "Tennessee," has little in common with 2001's "Glitter."

Premiering at New York's Tribeca Film Festival last Saturday, it follows two brothers seeking their estranged father. On their travels, they meet Krystal, a waitress played by Carey.

"Mariah said, 'This is going to be refreshing for me; this is actually something that I want,' even knowing that it was a gritty, hard shoot," director Aaron Woodley told Reuters in an interview. "Some people even told me that they forgot it was Mariah Carey when they were watching the film."

In 2001, Carey released the semi-autobiographical film "Glitter," which was a commercial and critical flop. She also appeared on MTV's Total Request Live, nearly disrobing in front of a baffled Carson Daly, amid rumors of a nervous breakdown.

Carey, 38, has spent the years since atoning.

"The whole 'Glitter' experience was very, very hard to go through, but I learned a lot from it," she said in a statement.

In 2005, the Long Island, New York native made a big comeback with her multiplatinum album "The Emancipation of Mimi" and won rave reviews for her performance in "WiseGirls," a comedy-drama that premiered at the Sundance Film Festival.

But that didn't stop him from offering her the lead female role. Daniels, producer of the Oscar-winning film "Monster's Ball," said he saw Carey in "WiseGirls" and decided "it was clear that she's a very talented actress."

Carey's rep denied to PEOPLE last week that the singer and actor Nick Cannon are dating, but the duo looked cozy at a party Monday night in Las Vegas.

After landing by private jet, the pair headed straight to Privé Las Vegas at Planet Hollywood, where Cannon, who stars in one of Carey's videos, was scheduled to deejay. Making their way to a VIP table, the pop diva whispered into Cannon's ear just before he took to the turntables.

With her BFF Da Brat by her side, Carey – wearing over-sized sunglasses and dressed in all-black – danced to the music as she sipped water and white wine, then feasted on hamburgers, chicken fingers and French fries. And for dessert? A chocolate cake for Da Brat, who was celebrating her 34th birthday.

"We have a very special person in the house tonight," Cannon called out on the microphone. "Happy birthday, Brat."

He also seemed to give Carey a "secret" shout-out. Carey stood up on the back of the booth and raised her wine glass when Cannon put on Jay-Z's "Public Service Announcement" and sang along with the lyrics, "I got the hottest chick in the game."

Wearing a humongous, gleaming ring on her left hand, Mariah Carey stayed close to Nick Cannon at the afterparty for her new film, Tennessee, on Saturday night.

The pair held hands at the bash at Cadillac Lounge at Tenjune, which followed the movie's premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival. The two also looked cozy in Vegas on April 14. When asked about a possible engagement, Cannon's rep had no comment; Carey's was unable to be reached for comment.

Asked what he loved about Carey, Cannon, 27, told PEOPLE: "Everything." He was at her side from 8 p.m. to about 10:45 p.m. in Tenjune's VIP room, where they were joined by her BFF, Da Brat. Zoe Kravitz and Ben Kingsley also stopped by.

Meanwhile, before the premiere, Carey played it coy, saying she only has eyes for one male: Jack, her Jack Russell terrier.

"I'm in love with my dog," said the singer, 39. "He is my special someone. I love spending time with him."

Even when love hurts her adoration stays strong: Carey wore a pink Hello Kitty band-aid on her hand at the premiere, explaining that Jack "accidentally bit me."

In her new film, she plays Krystal, a troubled diner waitress and aspiring singer who tackles personal demons on a road trip to Tennessee.

"This is something very close to my heart," she said of her first major role since the 2001 bomb Glitter. "I'm very grateful to be here tonight. Some people come into our lives and take a chance, someone like Lee Daniels," who produced Tennessee.

The pressure is piling on Mariah Carey to confirm her romance with actor Nick Cannon, after they played a cat-and-mouse game at the Tribeca Film Festival to avoid being spotted together. Both stars had movies premiering at the event on Saturday night; Cannon's basketball film Ball Don't Lie and Carey's Tennessee.

They duly took to the red carpet to promote their own pictures in different parts of town - but Cannon dashed past photographers and reporters at his big night, avoiding questions about his relationship with the superstar. He then skipped his own afterparty, so he could join Carey at the Tenjune bash to celebrate Tennessee. The pair then embarked on a clever game of hide and seek and managed to avoid the prying eyes of the press and paparazzi, shying away in a V.I.P. section.

The pair are rumored to have got together after Cannon appeared in a video for Carey's new album E=MC2. They have since been spotted together partying in Las Vegas and are reported to be traveling to the Cannes Film Festival next month. However friends claim Carey is unlikely to speak out about the romance, because she loves keeping relationships under wraps.

A pal recently said, "Mariah is the master when it comes to keeping her relationships secret. Even though she's a big star, she likes to keep her private life to herself."

Carey's exes include record boss Tommy Mottola, rapper Eminem and singer Luis Miguel. Cannon was last known to be dating actress Zulay Henao, after breaking off his engagement to model Selita Ebanks.

What is going on with Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon?

They were reportedly getting cozy in Las Vegas this past weekend, and now I just spotted the two of them together at the Beverly Hills Hotel!

The pair were sitting in the backseat of a very large black Bentley stopped at the entrance of the hotel, which was preventing other cars from coming and going. Not sure what the deal was, but the two stayed put as a couple of gals from their entourage kept getting in and out of the car.

Carey, 39, and Cannon, 27, never left the luxury sedan and were finally whisked away by their driver around 8:30 p.m.

The songbird performed earlier on the night on American Idol. None of my sources saw Cannon at Idol, so it's unclear if he was there.

People magazine reported earlier this week that Carey and Cannon hung out in Vegas on Monday night after taking a private jet to Sin City together. They appeared quite friendly at Privé at Planet Hollywood, where Nick was deejaying.

The two met in March, when Cannon made a cameo in one of her music videos.

Is Mariah Carey wearing actor Nick Cannon's engagement ring?

Well, based on sightings of the two holding hands - and photos of Carey wearing a big ring Saturday night during a New York afterparty for her new film, "Tennessee" - various media reports, including one that appeared on People.com Monday (April 28), suggest that she may be.

So, when Cannon stopped by the MTV News offices Monday to promote his film "Ball Don't Lie," we just had to ask him about his relationship with the pop diva.

First, the actor danced around our questions about the Carey rumors, saying that the singer's "a great person."

When pressed for more, he positively squirmed, adding, "I can't even know what to say. She's probably the most festive, remarkable person I've ever met. Good friend." When pressed further about the rumors, he said, "Rumors happen. They do."

Carey has long been rumored to be dating executive Mark Sudack, a member of her management team, but buzz about her and Cannon gained momentum on April 15, when People.com ran a piece entitled "Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon's Night Out in Vegas." The article claimed that the two flew into Sin City on a private jet and were later spotted at a nightclub, getting "cozy" at one of the VIP tables.

Then, on Monday, People.com added more fuel to the fire, claiming that Carey was seen sporting a "humongous, gleaming ring" at the afterparty. The report further claims the two held hands for most of the soiree, and that they barely left each other's sides all evening.

Whether or not it's all a bunch of hoo-hah, when asked by MTV News about a possible engagement, spokespeople for both Cannon and Carey had no comment.

Los Angeles (E! Online) - It's fast becoming the hottest list in town-but one that celebrities definitely don't want to be on.

Following news that Britney Spears, Farrah Fawcett and Maria Shriver all had their private medical records pried on by unauthorized staffers at the UCLA Medical Center comes word that Tom Cruise, Mariah Carey, George Harrison and Mamas and the Papas mastermind John Phillips also had their files snooped.

A former employee of the facility, who was one of a group of workers fired back in 1995 for sneaking a peek at celebrity records, told the Los Angeles Times that the current wave of file breaches is hardly the security glitch the hospital is making it out to be.

"People knew that we were looking up celebrities and other patients," James Duckstad, who personally copped to having, "out of boredom," perused Cruise's and Dom DeLuise's records during his time at the hospital, told the newspaper.

"It was news throughout the whole hospital that employees were fired for screwing around in the computer. This was in 1995, and here we are 13 years later-and either they didn't follow the policy or people didn't take it that seriously."

The 1995 incident was hardly an anomaly.

Winning Formula. Mariah Carey's E=MC² adds up to an aural success, offering a smart mix of dance and drama.

Daydream. Butterfly. Rainbow. Glitter. No, those aren't the names of Barbie's pet ponies, they're the ridiculously saccharine titles of Mariah Carey's albums from 1995 to 2001. So when she called her 10th studio CD The Emancipation of Mimi three years ago, it was clear that she intended to drop the cutesy shtick, let down her weave, and start getting real. It was a clever move.

Emancipation was the lucky strike that updated Carey's sound with bass-heavy flavor and reversed the downward spiral of her sales. Now, with E=MC²--another bold title--she's out to prove that her comeback was no fluke.

Of course, it's doubtful that Carey is a secret admirer of Einstein's theory of relativity, but one thing's for sure: The golden-throated diva has discovered a formula that works. Not unlike Emancipation, E=MC² finds Carey stacking the deck with the hottest producers and guest artist in urban music (Jermaine Dupri, StarGate, T-Pain, Damian Marley, Young Jeezy). The result is a largely enjoyable mix of flirtatious club jams, midtempo love songs, and emotional ballads anchored by hip-hop beats that handsomely showcase the singer's powerful vocal chops.

Ever the party girl, Carey opens the album with the sleek and seductive "Migrate," where she imagines getting buzzed on pinot grigio during a night out with the ladies. Other dancefloor anthems include "I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time" and "O.O.C.," which, for all of their pop polish, never lose their soulful spirit. But it's not all about velvet ropes and playful come-ons; notably, Carey suffers from a major love hangover on "Side Effects," a synthy cautionary tale about an abusive relationship. "Wakin' up scared some nights still dreaming 'bout the violent times," she sings with outspoken intensity.

And yet Carey remains a romantic at heart. With the ballads "Love Story" and "Last Kiss," she reunites with Dupri to recapture the passionate splendor of 2005's "We Belong Together." It's unfortunate, then, that E=MC² closes with its only missteps, the somber elegy "Bye Bye"--an odd choice for the follow-up single to the cheeky hit "Touch My Body"--and the preachy gospel hymn "I Wish You Well" (this CD's version of Emancipation's "Fly Like a Bird"). Still, for an artist whose career was all but dead four years ago, Carey is wise to play it safe by building on the finest elements of her last CD. Were it not for the final two tracks, she could've gotten away with calling this album Treasure.

Pop goddess Mariah Carey scaled Oympian heights with her last album 2005's Grammy-winning, 6-million-selling The Emancipation of Mimi. Certainly, E=MC² doesn't equal its predecessor. Still, this is a satisfying follow-up, heavy on hip-hop-flavored midtempo jams (like the irressistible No. 1 hit "Touch My Body") and beat-driven ballads (best is the pretty, piano-laced "I Stay In Love"). The disc occasionally strays from that formula on cuts like the churchy closer "I Wish You Well."

But the highlight is "Side Effects," the CD's darkest and most personal track, which seems to allude to Carey's failed marriage to music exec Tommy Mottola: "Sleeping with the enemy/Aware that he was smothering every last part of me." Vaguely menacing, it shows that even pop goddesses have their demons.

After bizarre meltdowns and questionable career choices early in this decade, Mariah Carey came back with a bang in 2005 with her album The Emancipation of Mimi, which gave us the hits Shake It Off, Don't Forget About Us and We Belong Together. Now, the songbird proves her comeback was no fluke with E=MC².

Carey has toned down her five-octave range a bit, but purists need not worry -- her voice has lost none of its power.

The album starts off poorly, with the monotone Migrate offering wannabe hip-hop lines such as "From the car into the club we migrate/From the bar to VIP we migrate/From the party to the afterparty migrate/Afterparty to hotel -- migrate" and a stunted, hesitant rap by T-Pain. But the first single, the slinky slow jam Touch My Body, unleashes Mariah's inner vamp. It's a shameless sex anthem, with talk of Mariah wrapping her legs around a guy's waist and begging for him to "give me what I deserve," but somehow, her angelic voice makes it all sound almost innocent.

On Cruise Control, Mariah teams up with new-school reggae royalty Damian Marley, who contributes a short but rhythmic rap. The song is more than a bit silly -- it spells out C-R-U-I-S-E control, for some reason, and Mariah tries to pull off a Jamaican accent ("He's the flyest ting") -- but it's pleasing and flows nicely. I'm That Chick cops the slick, cool funk of Forget Me Nots -- its cleverly minimalist bassline somehow uses exactly one note, but perfectly anchors the groove. The appealing ballad Last Kiss serves up Mariah's trademark hopeful romance: "This feeling is too good to miss/Ain't no kiss ever gonna be our last kiss," while Love Story aims for the anthemic heft of We Belong Together and doesn't miss by much.

But the album's high point finds Mariah softly and sweetly lamenting the loss of any kind of loved one on the truly touching Bye Bye: "This is for my peoples who just lost somebody/Your best friend, your baby, your man or your lady/Put your hand way up high/We will never say bye."

Thankfully, it looks like we won't be saying "bye" to Mariah for a long time.

In a Wednesday conference call with reporters, American Idol executive producer Nigel Lythgoe offered updates on this year's "Idol Gives Back" fundraising effort, to air Wednesday, April 9.

Lythgoe cleared the air on talk that Mariah Carey would perform a duet with the late Marvin Gaye, a la Celine Dion and Elvis Presley a year ago. "Unfortunately, it's not [happening]," he shared. "We couldn't get the rights to music with Marvin, so we had to cancel it."

So as I reported it, they had to axe! That sucks! :(

Her vocal range and songwriting talent made her a star. Her troubled love life, weight issues, and public breakdown made her a tabloid target. But Mariah Carey is still here - and she's not finished yet.

In the house of Mariah Carey, dreams really do come true. The fantasy begins as soon as you step into her TriBeCa triplex and a housekeeper brings a bottle of Fiji water and a small linen napkin with the word "Poetic" embroidered on it in silver thread.

After refreshing yourself in the sitting room, where Marilyn Monroe's white piano lives, you are escorted up the stairs - past the Creamsicle-colored walls and glass scones - to the rooftop lounge, where your hostess makes her grand entrance a flurry of pink, trailing puffs of perfume and a hyper Jack Russell terrier named J.J.

Looking back, you don't know how or when the Mariahfication occurred. Most likely, it was before she sprayed you with her signature scent (M by Mariah Carey, which contains top notes of toasted marshmallow) and after the shots of butterscotch schnapps mixed with Baileys, chased with red wine. But over the next few hours, you will find that you are no longer quite yourself.

By the end of the night, you will somehow end up wearing your hostess' fluffy pink bathrobe, gazing at the Empire State Building from the roof deck, and feeling like a diva. That is, until you see your reflection and realize your mistake: Only Mariah Carey can get away with being Mariah Carey.

Imagine if Aladdin, Tinkerbell, and Liberace threw a slumber party in Barbie's Dream House. That's what it feels like to be inside Carey's penthouse, only with an open bar. "Do you want anything to drink?" Carey asks from the hallway, once I am settled in her Moroccan Lounge, a pillow-strewn lair inspired by her trip to Marrakech. "I'll tell you if we have anything extra festive!"

Moments later, teetering on the pink pom-pommed heels that she calls "my little house shoes," the singer returns from the bar carrying two ornate glasses filled with the butterscotch schnapps and calls for backup - requesting some red wine as well as the company of her choreographer and close friend, Rachel.

"Let's show our cheer!" Carey suggests once Rachel arrives with the wine. In perfect synchronicity, they raise their goblets with outstretched pinkies - "One, two, three, pose!" - and vogue like practiced pinup girls.

Carey has good reason to celebrate. After eight months of work, she is almost finished recording her new album, E=MC², a mix of breezy ballads, club anthems, and sexy R&B tracks with such fearlessly inviting titles as "Touch My Body," her first single off the record. It's likely that her latest CD, due in stores this month, will bring Carey within a hair's breadth of smashing the world record for the most number-one songs, ever. Currently, she is tied with Elvis Presley for second place, after the Beatles, with 17 chart-topping hits already to her credit.

Among her other distinctions: At 38, Carey is the best-selling female artist of all time. She is said to have hit one of the highest notes ever produced by a human, while singing "Emotions" at the 1991 Video Music Awards. She has shared a stage with Pavarotti and Sean "Diddy" Combs. And it's possible that she boasts the largest Hello Kitty collection on earth.

It's hard to reconcile the phenomenon that is Mariah, the seriously talented singer-songwriter with the reported seven-octave range, with her alter ego, Mimi, the bouncy bombshell who, on this day, is busting out of a skimpy pink T-shirt that says "Pussycat Lounge."

It's a dichotomy, I understand," Carey purrs, sounding sleepy and warm. "I understand that people think I am a ditzy moron."

She smiles and shrugs. She has enough on her mind, thanks to her forthcoming album. The hallmarks of a singer who is determined to be the best are everywhere, from the home recording studio where she's been pulling rowdy late-night sessions with her frequent collaborator and good friend Jermaine Dupri to the well-used bottle of Mouth Korte Oral Moisturizer that she has left behind on a table in the Moroccan Lounge.

To keep her vocal cords sufficiently lubricated, Carey sometimes sleeps in her steam room, complete with a water bed, dressed in terry cloth. And because the late Luther Vandross once told her that humidity is good for her voice, she has been trying to record only in places with moist climates, such as the Caribbean island of Anguilla.

While she is a singer first, Carey has earned a reputation as one of the hardest-working women in the show business, promoting her records, fragrances, and films. In addition to her latest CD, she recently launched her second perfume, M by Mariah Gold. She'll play an aspiring singer in the drama Tennessee, from the producer of Monster's Ball. Carey is also attached to a film adaptation of the gritty novel Push.

Only in recent years has the star forced herself to slow down. The lesson came at an expensive and embarrassing price when she experienced a very public meltdown following the untimely release of Glitter, the box-office dud loosely based on her life story, right after September 11, 2001.

"It's not that difficult to become exhausted," Carey says in her own defense. Checking her reflection in one of the Moroccan Lounge's many mirrors, she corrals a few stubborn frizzies into place with the rest of her relaxed blonde waves. "I mean, I have three personal assistants just to keep up with my schedule."

On this night, Carey has just returned from vacationing in Aspen, where she indulged in sleigh-rides, hot-tub parties, and ice-cream sundae sessions in the company of her closest friends. It's all part of her plan to make room in her life for more downtime and less drama.

"You get one vacation a year, and if that's going to be filled with weird moments, or not being happy, we don't want that!" Carey says, raising her wine glass for another toast. "We want festive moments of ting, ting, ting - yay!"

Carey was born to be a singer, but she wanted to be a star. She found her voice at four and, around the same time, drew a revealing self-portrait that now hangs in her apartment - there is a hall of fame where she displays her countless awards and photos of herself with her idols, including Barbra Streisand, Patti LaBelle, and Aretha Franklin.

To judge by the early portrait, Carey always had a sense of self and a penchant for glamour. The drawing depicts a sticklike figure with thick eyelashes and a pronounced beauty mark next to a floating pack of cigarettes. It's labeled in a childish scrawl: "Me I am Mariah."

Over the years, Carey has become a bit more existential about her identity. "I've always had a really low self-esteem, and I still do," she says. "What's weird about that is being onstage, and the love that you get, and the adoration that you feel from your real fans. It's hard for a partner to compete - just imagine."

Carey has been romantically linked with Yankees slugger Derek Jeter, Latin crooner Luis Miguel, rapper Eminem, and music executive Mark Sudack, to whom she was rumored to be engaged in 2005. She says she would like to marry someday, but it won't be until she finds "someone who I would know, 'OK, they're going to take care of me emotionally, they're going to understand who I am...' That's a big deal for me: feeling like somebody else can't fully understand me because they're not in show business. It shouldn't matter, but it does, because the energy it takes to be 'on' is a lot."

But despite her share of boyfriends, Carey claims to be "a freakin' prude" who has never had a one-night stand. ("I'm Mary Poppins: I'm what the buttoned-up girls are supposed to be," she says with a laugh.) Even as a teenager, she was wary of being sidetracked by sex when her first commitment was to her career and to herself, an ever-evolving work in progress.

In the eleventh grade, Carey enrolled in beauty school because, as she puts it, "I wanted to be the pretty girl, so I thought, Let me get my act together and figure out what to do with my hair." Although her career as a beautician got intercepted, she is the one friends call when they need a facial. She even has her own lancet for popping pimples.

Not to mention a fully equipped beauty salon. It's one place where Carey can exercise total image control, after years of listening to industry types and image shapers scrutinize her appearance. Especially in the beginning of her career, she received advice that just inflamed her insecurities. Among other critiques, a product manager told Carey that she should only let the right side of her face be photographed. More recently, she has put up with the media's endless speculation about her fluctuating weight.

"I don't know why everyone thinks I lost 30 pounds," says Carey, who is noticeably slimmer these days after bringing back a personal trainer she liked from St. Barts. "This trainer as actually helped me reshape my arms. That's where I gained most of my weight: upper body. That's just one thing you have to lose weight for. With this whole steroid crap, that's crazy. I'm almost on the verge where I'd be too muscular if I was going to do a thing like that."

Carey's obsession with her image isn't purely cosmetic. The singer has been examining her ancestral roots to understand who Mariah is. On a tour of one of her "serious rooms," a quiet den where she has created a family tree of photographs, she pauses before a snapshot of a lean preteen girl with tawny skin and untamed hair, wearing a marigold bikini. "See," she says, "this was before I developed a complete complex about the way I looked."

As a biracial child growing up on Long Island, Carey struggled to fit in with other kids her age (she is the youngest daughter of a part-Venezuelan, part Africa-American father and a white Irish-American mother; they divorced when she was three.) "People still get confused about my ethnicity," she says, twirling one of her long blonde locks. "OK, so my hair is blown out today - does that mean I look more white or more black? I don't know. I feel like a lot of people think, Oh, she had this easy fairy tale-princess life," Carey continues, fidgeting with her diamond-studded butterfly ring. "Not to quote Swingers, but 'we all have stories.' I got a freakin' miniseries in me."

The story of Carey's rise from beauty-school dropout to the best-selling female artist of all time is certainly the stuff of melodrama and, at times, tragicomedy. But, despite some painful memories, she is surprisingly unguarded and funny when discussing certain episodes to her past that never made it into Glitter.

For instance, there was her legendary and unhappy four-year marriage to Tommy Mottola, the Sony record executive 20 years her senior, who signed Carey when she was 18 after receiving her demo tape at a party and wed her in a star-studded ceremony a few years later.

The years she spent at "Sing Sing," her nickname for the $10 million Bedford, New York, mansion where she felt so imprisoned, now seem like a lifetime ago. But the act of leaving the man who jump-started her career marked her indelibly. "I had to make a decision: either lose myself completely or learn to stand up for myself," Carey says. "You have to be very courageous to do that."

Reclaiming her sense of self is a powerful, recurring theme for the star, who has survived her share of bad splits in her professional and personal life. After parting ways with Mottola and Sony, she signed with Virgin Records, only to have her contract bought out after Glitter and its sound track tanked. Also, she was hospitalized for exhaustion amid swirling rumors that she had tried to commit suicide.

"I spent seven hours one time reading all the press just to see what they were saying," Carey says, rolling her eyes at the memory. "We were going to Puerto Rico, and they'd be like, 'She's in the hospital in England,' Literally, we'd be sitting there on a catamaran."

Carey feels like her situation was not as bad as the world made it out to be. "I guess people can just say what they want," she continues, "and until you have a humongous success, they don't believe you can be happy."

The singer's previous album, The Emancipation of Mimi has sold 10 million copies worldwide and earned her three Grammy Awards. Just don't call it a comeback, she says, with a wry little laugh: "Yeah, I've been here for years."

Her closest friends call her Tinkerbell, but Carey actually has more in common with Peter Pan: She doesn't ever want to grow up. She loves rainbows and butterflies, riding the Tower of Terror at Disney World, swimming with dolphins. Even though she's approaching 40, Carey likes to think of herself as "eternally 12." So, she lives in Neverland, where lost boys and girls come to play. Tonight's partying winds into the Mermaid Room, an aquatic-themed hangout where Lindsay Lohan and Sean Lennon had a jam session. "He was playing my Hello Kitty guitar," she recalls.

Next, the star makes a detour to her beauty salon, where she reapplies her lip liner and some M perfume. "This smells different on everybody," she says, before dabbing a drop behind my ear. Carey leads me to her palatial walk-in wardrobe, which should have choral music piped into it. Racks of sparkly, flowy, colorful clothes give way to rows of shoes, an estimated 1,000 pairs in all: Manolo Blahniks, Jimmy Choos, and Diors, in every possible shade.

Carey picks up a hair of thigh-high suede boots in Christmas red. "From Louis Vuitton - so you know they're not a joke; they're not a game," she says, just to make her point stiletto-sharp."I've come a looooong way."

Yes, it took a nomadic childhood and being trapped in a golden cage called Sing Sing to teach Carey the value of having a room of one's own. Now she has so many that she doesn't actually know the count. (She even has an Elf Room, which is decorated with snowflakes year-round.) It seems nothing makes her happier these days than just having room to breathe.

"Do you want to go out on the roof?" she asks, handing me her fluffy pink bathrobe. "I don't want you to freeze."

"This is a Jacuzzi; it's really festive," she says, clip-clopping across the deck in the dark. "And this is my little area where I lounge looking out. See, there's the Empire State Building, and that's the Chrysler Building."

Balancing a precipitously high heel on the edge of the hot tub, she pulls you up for a better view of the endless cityscape glittering in the darkness. "It's like its own little oasis, right?" Carey asks.

In fact, she calls it "Mimi's Oasis." And when she's tired of being Mariah Carey, she comes up here to gather her thoughts, uninterrupted, just another star in the sky.

(Her assistant and bodyguard carried her bags.) "No, no -- don't get up! you're all eating," she told the Allure crew, who had just sat down for lunch. (Her assistant had called earlier to let everyone know that she'd be a little late for the 11 A.M. shoot.) In the Pink: The singer changed from her street clothes - a down Moncler jacket and skinny jeans - into a pink dressing gown she had brought with her, then settled in for her hair and makeup. "I wanted to give her dramatically raised brows," said makeup artist Brigitte Reiss-Andersen. "She made us laugh because she could make the exact face we were going for." For the Record: Carey put a copy of her new album - with tracks produced by will.i.am of the Black Eyed Peas and Jermaine Dupri - on the studio's sound system. She asked the studio manager to replay the song "Side Effects" as she sang along. Afterparty: Thompson took his last photograph at 10:30 P.M, but the night was just getting started for Carey. She sipped Pinot Grigio from a champagne glass, changed into her jeans and ankle boots, and discussed her plans to go to a friend's birthday party. Just before midnight, the singer slipped out the door to her waiting car.

Logline: When cab driver Carter learns his brother has leukemia, he leads them on a
journey from New Mexico to Tennessee in the hope of securing a bone marrow transplant
from their estranged father.

Synopsis:
Story begins with a flashback of an 18 year-old version of CARTER sporting a bloody lip and speeding away from Kansas in an old car. He leans his head out of the window, tasting freedom… from what, we don’t yet know.

Jump to the present. Carter’s now in his late thirties. He drives a beat up old cab for aliving, shuttling about Albuquerque’s low life. He lives in a mobile home with his brother ELLIS (20’s), an amateur photographer with a love for photographing mountains.

The sky falls when Carter discovers Ellis lying in a pool of blood and developing fluid. The doctor’s verdict: acute leukemia. While Carter gets tested as a possible bone marrow donor, Ellis pens a secret letter to his father. When Carter proves to be a negative match, Ellis reveals his own plan: head to Knoxville, Tennessee to find their FATHER. Perhaps he’ll be a match
.
Carter has reservations about this plan. Search out their father? Memories begin to flood over him including a vision of a pretty young girl named LAUREL.

Ellis’s need wins out – Carter collects him at the hospital and they head out on the highway in Carter’s cab. While camping out, talk of childhood camping trips gives birth to a frightening dream/memory for Carter – his drunken father striking him. Waking, Carter drowns the memory with half a bottle of Jack Daniels.

The cab’s transmission dies in Texas. When the brothers order a single breakfast betweenthem, it’s pretty clear they don’t have the cash to fix the car. This is remedied by KRYSTAL (20’s/30’s), a waitress who sneaks them extra coffee, bacon. Ellis takes a
shine to her, and when he learns she has always dreamed of heading to Nashville to try to become a country singer, he invites her along for the ride… if she’ll provide the ride.

Krystal’s reaction – thanks, but no thanks. Ellis goes to work on Krystal. He makes sure that she overhears him talking about her on the payphone in glowing terms. As Ellis leaves, Krystal realizes this may be her last chance. She heads out the door after him.

Sitting in Krystal’s driveway is a tarp-covered car. Before Krystal goes into the house to pick up some things, she lets drop a few tidbits of information – she’s married and her husband FRANK is a cop. High tension as Krystal sneaks into the house, grabs her guitar
and maneuvers unseen past a gang of hubbie’s poker buddies. Outside, she reveals the car -- a bright yellow Mustang. They’re off.

Oklahoma. They head to a Tecumseh bar where Krystal and Ellis toss down tequila and cut up on the dance floor. Carter abstains until urged by Krystal – big mistake. Carter gets trashed, and unconsciously gropes Krystal while dreaming of Laurel. A bouncer steps in, Carter fights back. Boom, he’s down for the count.

Back in Texas, Frank discovers that his beloved car is missing. Oh yes, and also his wife. He issues and APB and heads out on the highway.

Krystal criticizes Carter’s drinking. He can’t be selfish. Ellis is the one who is important right now. Carter speaks up – she has no idea what he’s given up for his family.

Arkansas. Krystal leads Ellis into a closed tourist cave where they go skinny dipping (and more). Outside the cave, Carter wrestles with the urge to down a bottle of Jim Beam, ends up smashing it on the ground.

While driving, Carter and Krystal talk. She tells him Frank is bad to her. He tells her little about his own father, but hints at his love for Laurel. When Ellis gets a bad fever, Carter has to share his brother’s illness with her (and the reason for the trip). The release of secrets gives rise to more memories for Carter – his father drinking Jim Beam and ramming him with a table for losing a football game.

Frank tracks them down, first to a motel, then to a Waffle House. A car chase ensues during which Krystal makes some tricky maneuvers, getting away from Frank and allowing them to sneak aboard a freight train bound for Nashville.

Once in Nashville, the trio exits the train only to discover that they’ve left behind the duffel bag with all their cash. Krystal chooses to pawn her guitar, but Carter has a better idea. He hands her a flyer for an open mike night at a local saloon. Prizes awarded.
Krystal comes in second. She gives the boys her winnings for bus fare, says her goodbyes and heads back to the saloon. Frank is waiting for her. He tries to get her back, but her mind is made up. She’s staying in Nashville.

On the bus, Carter and Ellis reminisce about a good memory of their father, the time he let them lie on a runway and watch planes land over them. Ellis’s nose starts bleeding. Carter rushes him to a hospital.

Carter says he’ll go find their father alone. Ellis makes a request of his brother – take photos of the surrounding mountains. Says there is a good view from across the street from a particular middle school. Carter agrees. While snapping photos, he spies Laurel coming out of the middle school.

Carter heads out on his own to find his father. As he travels, more memories pop up – he and Laurel had made plans to go to South Carolina together.

Back at the hospital, Ellis leaves his hospital bed, orders a taxi and sends the cab driver off with a shoebox.

Carter finally finds his father – at the Cedar Springs Church Cemetery. He returns to the hospital, takes Ellis out to the airport. They lie there watching planes land and say their goodbyes without saying goodbye.

Carter gets in touch with Krystal, who visits and sings for Ellis. Ellis asks Carter to climb in bed with him, which he does. Ellis dies next to his brother.

Carter’s memory floodgate drops. He relives everything about the night they left Tennessee. His father attacks his mother, he fights back. He packs up Ellis and his mother in the car, says goodbye to Laurel and heads out, just like at the beginning of the story.

When Carter makes one last visit to his father’s grave, the groundskeeper hands him a shoebox – the one we saw Ellis send off with a cab driver. A note from Ellis reveals that he knew his father was dead, that the trip was his way of getting his brother back toTennessee, back to Laurel and back to hope.

Comments:
Dealing with themes of familial estrangement, violent childhood pasts and alcoholism, the script plays out like a road trip version of Affliction.

The main problem lies in the fact that while we are clued into the violence and hate that gave rise to Carter’s exodus from Tennessee, the scars it left remain mostly hidden in terms of their effect on the action of the story. Other than a scene he feels up Krystal after drinking too much, this emotional baggage he’s been carrying around for years doesn’t have any hold over the forward movement of the story.

The drama that is Carter’s past is much more interesting than anything he comes up against in the present story. I think of The Prince of Tides where the main character is hiding the dark secret about one terrifying night in his childhood where attackers rape him and his family. It works because the act of uncovering that truth, his therapy is the present action of the story. I don’t mean to belittle Carter’s ability to overcome vehicle breakdowns, to evade police and to search out his father, but there is a major disconnect between his demons and his journey. They run parallel, rarely intersecting.

This gives rise to a secondary problem – with the absence of a strongly conflicted main character whose struggle plays itself out in the present, we are forced to look to other characters to drive the story for us. It is ultimately Krystal who gives Act Two any shape
or meaning. It is her flight from her oppressive husband that gives rise to the main tension. It is her attraction for Ellis and her rehabilitation of Carter that cause relationships to grow. If there is a choice role in the script, it is Krystal’s.

It’s a shame that what works so well in this script come way too late to make up for lost opportunities. The fact that Ellis has known about his father’s death all along, and that the entire trip is actually for Carter’s benefit sheds wonderful new light on the Act Three scenes. This made for a difficult second read. While less than thrilled with Act Three the first time around, knowing this secret made the second read much more compelling.

The concept was melodramatic without pushing the envelope of credibility too far. Easy to latch onto, provided a clear journey.

Just as this script has a wealth of amazing touches (a love scene which takes place in a closed tourist cave, Ellis getting Krystal to go with them by talking her up on the payphone), it had just as many clichés. When they find themselves out of cash, Krystal
competes in a music contest and wins $250. The bells of convenience were ringing loud and clear as I read that section. Carter’s father was an abusive alcoholic who would
berate him for his performance on the football field. Isn’t this the cookie-cutter father from so many other stories? Friday Night Lights was on a few nights ago – Carter’s father was a character in the film… to the letter.

I suppose the dialogue was pa$$able, but I found it difficult to hear much difference from one character to the next. Ellis seemed the most fleshed out, dialogue-wise. The language he uses in describing the mountains is the only dialogue that sings. Carter’s silent sections give me a much better idea of who this guy is than his actual lines.

The first act is padded. Too much stagnant time with too few surprises. Things don’t kick in until we meet Krystal on page 29. That would be fine if her departure on page 76 didn’t mark the total end of her impact on the story. I guess I don’t understand why
Krystal appears other than to give the boys a ride. Sure, she has a little romance with Ellis. Sure, she calls Carter on his drinking. My feeling is that she is simply a tool to help raise the tension and to help the physical journey across country to continue. Carter didn’t
need her to show up to finish out the story. Her appearance caused complications but didn’t help to illuminate the character of our main guy, Carter.

Ultimately, the characters in Tennessee journey much further physically than they do
emotionally.

As reported earlier today, "Touch My Body" is at #4 on the Hot 100 airplay with 82,765,500 impressions and earns its first #1 position on Billboard's Hot 100 Streaming Chart.

Mariah Musical Guest on This Week's SNL

Mariah will be this week's musical guest on Saturday Night Live with Jonah Hill as a guest host. Mariah is replacing Janet Jackson who dropped out due to having the flu.

This will be Mariah's first appearance on the show in over ten years. Her previous appearances were in 1990, 1991 and 1997.

Saturday Night Lives airs live from New York this Saturday, March 15, at 11:30pm EST on NBC.

Can't say I am too thrilled... I really wanted her to come back on as a host and musical guest! Can't Lorne Michael's see she is hilarious! Grrr

Vh-1 Review's E=MC²

Yesterday, Island/Def Jam honcho L.A. Reid hosted a few journalists in his office for a special preview of Mariah Carey’s upcoming E=MC² album, tentatively due April 15. While Reid looked on, Mariah’s A&R man Mark Sudack (poser) played 12 of the album’s cuts from his laptop, often passionately (and adorably!) singing along. On the album, there was drama, there was death, there was disco. What follows is a track-by-track breakdown of our impressions of the album. Note that this isn’t the final track sequence, that L.A. ticked off the producers list to us but it is by no means etched in stone and the tracks that we heard weren’t always mastered.

One final note: so much of this album is sung in Mariah’s chest voice. The vocal gymnastics and whistle notes, while there (’cause, duh, it’s Mariah!), take a backseat to clear, purposeful singing, and Mariah sounds better for it. Oh yeah, Mimi’s back.

1. “Migrate” (co-produced by Danja) -- After announcing itself with Mariah’s patented whistle notes, this club track gets to bangin’ and it takes that task really seriously. It’s about as meta as a banger gets, with Mariah explaining during the chorus how her night goes: “From the car to the club / We migrate / From the bar to the V.I.P. / We migrate.” And so it goes, from the party to the after party, from the after party to the hotel. There’s a slight autotune effect on Mariah’s voice on the last “migrate” of each chorus, which I assume is to put her on equal ground with the man she shares the mic with here. T-Pain, mercifully shows up for just a guest verse -- this is not a full-blown duet. It’s a feisty track, with tough Storch-esque beats that Mariah’s bravado attempts to match: “If you’re inked up thuggin’, that’s what I like,” she says. See, I always thought she went for the pretty boys. Already we’re learning stuff!

2. “Touch My Body” (co-produced with Christopher “Tricky” Stewart and The-Dream) -- There isn’t much to say about this ultra-femme track that wasn’t said when it leaked. Hard to believe that that was only a little more than week ago -- in the time since, it’s become so ubiquitous that it’s kind of hard to imagine what radio was like before it. Even L.A. seemed taken aback by how quickly it has caught on -- he described the track’s out-of-the-gate success as virtually accidental.

3. “Last Kiss” (co-produced by Jermaine Dupri) -- One of the album’s many declarations of eternal love, this one is “We Belong Together, Part 35.” It’s nice but extremely safe. One thing that’s very much in its favor are Mariah’s vocals, which are nimble as they are in “We Belong Together” (she changes up her flow more times than I could count) and maybe more robust than they’ve sounded in over a decade. There’s a nice little duet at the end of this one between Mariah’s full chest voice and her higher register. Of course, if she didn’t show off that stellar natural resource, this wouldn’t be a Mariah Carey album.

4. “Lovin’ You Long Time” (co-produced by DJ Toomp) -- Pure and utter joy is this one, which is most reminiscent of the lovely Mimi outtake “When I Feel It.” Except this one’s, like, 10 times better. The chorus of DeBarge’s “Stay With Me” is the foundation of this track (as opposed to the verses, which provided the foundation for the single remix of Biggie’s “One More Chance” and Ashanti’s “Foolish,” among tracks). However, the sample sounds more weathered, and overall, the track comes off as a ‘60s throwback rather than an ‘80s one. One hundred percent feel-good and packing in a killer breakdown and conclusion that’s a wall of Mariah voices, this was the first song that felt like the work of unstoppable pop genius.

5. “Thanx for Nothin’” (co-produced by Jermaine Durpri) -- A mid-tempo ballad that sports a beat rougher than anything Jermaine Dupri has laid down for Mariah and a guitar line not unlike Mimi’s “So Lonely” (though this track is more sassy and less dour than that), “Thanx” suggests that Mariah and Jermaine aren’t sentenced to live in the shadow of their former glory and can actually make relatively new sounds together. Lyrically, this break-up track is a cross between the self-deprecating “Mine Again” (“I never knew enough about you, babe / And I guess I only have myself to blame”) and the streetwise posturing of “Get Your Number” (“Seems like all I do is think about your pseudo-romance / While you’re somewhere burnin’ diesel in the streets, havin’ laughs”). Mariah packs in so many lyrics that she barely has time to sing them, and sort of just growls them. It’s not nearly as ridiculous as that description might make it sound.

6. “That Chick” (co-produced by Stargate) -- Instant. Classic. An absolutely brilliant disco track that plays on Mariah’s strengths and sexiness without ever crossing the line into indulgence. It’s slick, it’s chic (and Chic, with its slap-you-on-the-ass bass line), it’s silly (“La da da a oooh wee-wee” goes the bit between the chorus and the verses) and it carries a killer middle 8 that’s as exhilarating as the one in Michael Jackson’s “P.Y.T.” (you know, the best part of one of the best songs ever that goes, “Don’t you know nowwwww / Is the perfect time…”?). Mariah makes references to 2Pac and Biggie, compares herself to ice cream and the lottery and maybe even references the long-lost track from the Charmbracelet sessions “Touch the Sky.” Oh, and also she delivers the most her line of her career, complete with a 10-cent word: “I brings that levity.” Maybe one day they’ll bottle the essence of Mariah, but until then, we have “That Chick” and I seriously am counting down the days till I can hear this track again. This needs to be a single, like, now, and Mariah needs to dust off those “Heartbreaker” remix roller skates for the video, pronto.

7. “Cruise Control” (co-produced by Jermaine Dupri) -- Another J.D. track that deviates from what could have been a detrimental pattern, this is a reggae-lite extended car metaphor (“I need a caddy wit some cruise control,” belts Mariah). The chorus consists of her spelling out, “C-R-U-I-S-E control” and the second verse finds Mariah adopting a Jamaican affect for kicks: “When da door open I de gals pon de block / They be hop-on, to rob the clock / Me say no mam / Step up step up / Bottle broken / Tink I’m jokin’.” Seriously, she says that. Damien Marley gets a guest verse, and I have to say, his shtick is a little more convincing.

8. “Side Effects” (co-produced by Scott Storch) -- You know how sometimes Southern rap almost has a heavy metal feel? Mariah and Storch exploit that by turning out a Southern-fried power ballad that’s a thinly veiled portrait of her time under Tommy Mottola’s reign (“Hell we built, and I dealt with it…Kept my tears inside ‘cause I knew if I started, I’d keep cryin’ for the rest of my life with you / I finally built up the strength to walk away / Don’t regret it…”). For someone as guarded as Mariah is publicly, it’s shockingly frank (she alludes to “violent times”) and really naked (the titular side effects refer to the toll the relationship has taken on her: she’s “still a little depressed inside” and “still a little defensive thinkin’ folks be tryin’ to run my life”). This is another highlight, and having a rapper so associated with drugs (Jeezy) on a track called “Side Effects” that isn’t about drugs at all, only makes things cleverer.

9. “Love Story” (co-produced by Jermaine Dupri) -- Anther ode to endless love (“This ain’t no fairy tale or fiction / This is truly ours for eternity”), this ballad is more of the baby-making ilk. It’s like Prince-lite with a synthesized beat a la “The Beautiful Ones,” but not as effects-laden (i.e. the beat doesn’t have the backwards sound). The melody is reminiscent of Mimi’s “Joyride,” and that should give you an indication of how sweet this track is.

10. “OOC” (co-produced by Swizz Beatz) -- This one has a pummeling thump so pronounced, it’s somewhat surprising that it’s not the work of Stargate or Tricky. “OOC” stands for “out of control,” and while the track isn’t exactly wild, it’s a fun mix of The-Dream’s “Ditch That N…” with a melody like Blu Cantrell’s “Hit ‘Em Up Style.” Besides the hypnotic refrain of “Forever and ever,” the track is most notable for including the word motherf***er. As in, “I know y’all motherf***ers feel like we / When you’re messin’ with the one true lova / That makes you OOC.” Hardcore!

11. “Bye Bye” (co-produced by Stargate) -- When Mariah first started promoting Mimi, she described “We Belong Together” as a cross between “Breakdown” and “One Sweet Day.” That description is infinitely more appropriate for “Bye Bye,” a song about death that’s “for my people who just lost somebody,” “for my people who lost their grandmothers” and seemingly for Mariah’s departed father, Alfred Roy (“You never got to see me back at No. 1”). It’s nice that Mariah’s on a confessional kick, although a track with the “We Belong Together” sonic template and lyrics tailored appeal to everyone on such a basic level seems like too easy of a combination for someone as established as Mimi. This one’s like insurance -- in case nothing else is a hit, here’s a sure-shot. But ultimately, it turns out that the album is too good for that.

12. “I Wish You Well” (co-produced by James Poyser) -- We were told that this was hot off the presses and a very rough version of the song, but even in its unpolished state, it was a stunner. A piano ballad that features Mariah, some gospel-tinged backing vocals, a piano and that’s it, this track is a throwback to the fan-favorite “Vanishing” from her 1990 debut. Part feisty (“You can’t manipulate me like before”) and totally spiritual (Mariah name-checks a bible verse in the chorus, although I couldn’t catch exactly what it was, and she ends the song repeating, “The Lord is my salvation / I will trust in him”), “I Wish You Well” will have fans wetting themselves. It’s gorgeous and in its simplistic way, the type of risk that Mariah should take more often.

The risky moments on the album (”Lovin’ You Long Time,” “That Chick,” “Side Effects” and “I Wish You Well”) bode well for the future. Though E=MC² feels extremely safe, there’s enough variation to signify some artistic growth. She’s cranking out hits and that’s fine because that’s what she’s always done (hitmaking is her medium), but when she goes out of the Top 40 comfort zone, the album truly soars. Over 10 years after she first sang about it, it’s only now that Mariah has worked up the courage to really spread her wings. The next question is: how high can they take her?

"Touch My Body" is this week's HOT SHOT DEBUT on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart at #57 (Billboard issue date: March 1, 2008).

This is Mariah's highest debut on the chart that is based on first week's airplay alone.

In comparison, after their first week of airplay, "We Belong Together" debuted at #81 and "It's Like That" was #104 (#4 on the bubbling under Hot 100 chart.)

On the Hot 100 Airplay chart, the song debuts at #23 this week and becomes Mariah's highest debut on the chart since 1997's "Honey" which debuted at the same position.

"Touch My Body" also rockets up to #20 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, an incredible 58 spots jump from its last week's debut at #78.

An All Access banner from Island Def Jam announces "Touch My Body" at #23 on Billboard's Hot 100 Airplay (Greatest Gainer) as well as the fact it is the #1 most added record across all formats this week.

This is a good sign! Gotta be her #18 chart topper! It hass too!

"Touch My Body" To Debut @ #22 on Airplay chart?

USA Today reports that "Touch My Body" debuts at #22 on this week's airplay chart, based on Nielsen BDS numbers. These are the same figures that are used for by Billboard, therefore the song's position on Billboard's Hot 100 Airplay chart should be around #22 as well. Official Billboard chart positions will be published later this week. Ken Barnes of USA Today, analyzes the chart:

"It would be foolish to ignore the initial impact of Mariah Carey's Touch My Body,' which hits the chart at No. 22 in one of the highest debuts yet recorded.

Nobody comes close to Mariah's No. 22 debut, of course, but another superstar, Usher, scores an unusually high entry at 51 with 'Love in This Club'."

As promised earlier, here is a detailed explanation about the way Billboard charts are calculated:

Last year Radio & Records was merged into Nielsen BDS, which Billboard uses. So, there is no longer a distinction between R&R and Billboard in terms of the radio panels used. R&R/BDS are a radio measuring system whereby each time a song is played, the number of people listening to the station at that time is documented. The number of listeners for each time a song is played is then added together to get "impressions" (i.e. how many people have heard a song in a week). Keep in mind it doesn't measure how many separate people have heard a song since many people hear a song more than once during a week. This information is calculated on a weekly basis and correlates to the airplay charts Billboard uses to determine the Hot 100 and other charts. The Hot 100 Airplay chart uses a Wednesday-Tuesday airplay week, while R&R uses a Monday-Sunday week. Billboard uses a Monday-Sunday week for the Hot Digital Songs chart.

The airplay figures we post from Mediabase are not the same as the BDS figures and thus, the number of impressions reported from Mediabase and the chart positions determined by it may be different from the actual numbers and positions on the Billboard charts. However, the Mediabase figures make for a good estimate on a song's airplay performance in a given week.

Questions often arise about how the Hot 100 is tabulated. Here is the formula:

Sales are divided by 10
(so 100,000 downloads sold = 10,000 chart points)

Impressions are divided by 10,000
(so 100 million impressions = 10,000 chart points)

Streamings are divided by 500
(so 50,000 streams = 100 chart points)

In common terms, 100,000 downloads is equal to 100 million impressions

OH MY LORD! Lambs....as soon as this record is available to download from itunes this has to be Mariah's 18th number one hit making her that much closer to 20#1 hits that the Beatles have!

With only 6 hours (approximately) of airplay on Tuesday, February 12, "Touch My Body" recorded an incredible total of 498 spins (Pop - 218, Rhythmic - 180, Urban - 89, Urban A/C - 9, Hot A/C - 2) that account for a total of 7.009 million audience impressions.

In comparison, after one day of airplay, "It's Like That" had 44 spins and a total audience impressions of 1.491 million (January 4, 2005). A cumulative amount of 545 spins was reached by "It's Like That" after four days of airplay.

As for "Don't Forget About Us", after its first week of airplay (ending October 2, 2005), the song has registered 7.705M audience impressions via 356 spins.

A reviewer of the film mentioned Mariah's cameo appearance:

While the film peters out after the declaration of the (mostly) unnecessary romance, it gets funnier to watch Mariah Carey take a poke at her image later in the film and ends with a chipper finale that should leave most people properly satisfied.

All in all, this should be a very big (and well deserved) summer hit for Sandler. And it's been long coming to see him go back to his old "Why don't you go to your home? Are you too good for your home??" days.

She appears as Mariah Carey and not as a character, so it's a plus to watch the Israelis and Palestinians (who in reality are both in love with the woman, as it appears the only thing they can agree on, oddly enough) at a hacky sack match fall all over her as she sings the National Anthem.
